Since these two air masses differ in temperature substantially, the action of rubbing against each other creates crazy and dangerous forms above the ground. The situation in the sky can be life threatening in the air as well as on the ground. An example of this was the plane crash at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport that was involved in a squall. The pilots chose to fly into the storm clouds on their base leg while trying to land. The nose of the plane was pushed to the ground.
Thunderstorms create unpredictable and dangerous conditions in the sky. Electrically charged atoms trade ions in each area of the storm. It can be exciting to breathe the air and see the light show made from the lightning in the sky as long as the storm is not reaching the ground.

In the middle of Tornado Warning, go directly to a room with no windows. People should never get under the bed. Stay away from windows. Out in the street, find the low spot away from trees. Trees attract lightning. In the car, just to get the low-lying area and stay there. Do not attempt to outrun the tornado or stay in the car.
Tornadoes form at any time, but especially from March - Aug. Texas has the most tornadoes. However, a sign from a motel was carried at a distance of 30 miles to Arkansas from Oklahoma in 2008. One time, there was a tornado that traveled over our house and sounded like a train with a roaring engine. We don't have railroad tracks anywhere for twenty miles. That tornado did touchdown in town and blew off the roof of a soft drink bottling plant.
